When people tell you Texas Hill Country is pretty, believe them. They are 100% telling the truth. There are a few RV parks to choose from in Fredericksburg. Our choice was The Vineyards of Fredericksburg RV Park because we’d read good things and vineyard RV parks in other wine country areas have been winners. We were not disappointed.
The RV park is a little north of downtown Fredericksburg on Highway 87 and is about 80 miles west of Austin. The area is an up and coming wine country destination. We passed miles and miles of new vineyards with large buildings we guessed to be tasting rooms. There are a few rows of grape vines along the entrance to the park. There is even wine tasting in the Rally Hall!
The center of the park is a long grassy area that encompasses an off-leash dog park, playground and a soccer field. We were in site 66 overlooking the park which gave us a wide open feel. All the sites are good sized with space in between. This is not a “cram them in” kinda place. Every site had a picnic table and fire-pit. Most of the spaces are pull-through, which is nice.
Site 92 is the spot to be if you’re part of a group because it has a nice covered patio complete with a BBQ. There was a group of friends taking their chairs and what looked like happy hour one afternoon while we were there. We jokingly whined as we passed them wondering where our invitation was.
The pool was quiet when we were there most likely due to the cooler temperature. I don’t get into our pool if it’s below my magic temperature.
It’s a short drive into downtown Fredericksburg, maybe five minutes if you catch the light red. Sadly, there wasn’t a bike lane so we had to drive instead of pedal into town.
As usual, we didn’t budget enough time to fully enjoy the park and the surrounding area. Next time, I hope we can stay at least five days.
