Our recent super quick trip to New Orleans was made better by being able to stay nearby. Both of us had seen rave reviews about French Quarter RV Resort and knew it was the place for us as we wanted to maximize our time being tourists.
We were there St. Patrick’s Day weekend and it was sold out. But, I imagine it’s sold out most weekends because of it’s proximity to the French Quarter.
The staff was so very nice. I called when we realized we’d be arriving after the office closed. Much to my surprise, there was a smiling staff member waiting for us as we pulled up.
The gated RV Resort has 52 large back-in sites situated in a large oval. We were in space 50, in the middle of the oval and there was plenty of grass between us and our neighbors, including behind us. The pool looked inviting, but we didn’t have time to enjoy it. If you’re going with a group, I recommend requesting site 38. It’s closest to the office building and is an oversized space with a nice cabana complete with a bbq and bar. Several of the spaces also had gazebos.
The resort sits closest, less than a half-mile walk to Bourbon Street. After quickly setting up camp and because it was dark when we arrived, we took an Uber there and back. The next day we walked without any issues. It’s close location to the action of the French Quarter isn’t the only reason to stay here. Your campsite here is a good jumping off point for many New Orleans activities. We walked the entire French Quarter, over to the mighty Mississippi River and enjoyed beignets along the waterfront. Freeweelin Bike Tours is less than a mile and is a great way to see the city and learn about it’s beginnings. New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park is less than three miles away and you could spend an entire day in City Park. If you’re there during JazzFest, why bother with car traffic when you can ride the 2.4 miles and be there in no time.
The reviews were spot on and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.
we have read some reviews where people were talking about not feeling safe at night. Did you experience any of that? It looks very nice just want to be sure its safe. We are looking at being there in October. Thanks for any insight.
We felt safe. There is a gate that requires a passcode and a guard at night. Never did we feel uneasy. I saw unlocked bikes inside the campground. We took an Uber to Bourbon Street and back our first night. We walked over the second day and walked back that night. As long a you are aware of your surroundings you should be fine. Have a great time and check back to tell me about your fun!
