You know how much we like finding those gem campgrounds and RV parks. I’m happy to report we’ve found another gem!
Mark’s aunt now lives outside Boise and planned a family reunion for June of this year. It was going to be a big event with new cousins to meet and family coming from several states. She had activities planned and was so excited, until the darn virus derailed it all. Our plan was to combine the reunion with a few days in McCall, which as you know is our favorite place on the planet. If we ever win the lottery, we are buying a cabin there. But, first we’d have to play the lottery.
I digress, let’s get back to the great new place we found.
Ambassador RV Resort is 25 miles almost directly west of the Boise Airport in Caldwell, far enough from the big city to see tractors and farmland.
As soon as we pulled in, I knew we’d like our stay. The staff was so helpful, even in the middle of a pandemic. There are large pull through spaces for you to park when registering that are laid out for easy maneuvering no matter where your campsite is. Our check-in was a breeze. We were mindful of physical distance since we’d arrived from another state. As we walked outside back to our coach, our escort was waiting with a bright smile. After a long drive, being greeted with a smile is huge and makes you feel welcome. Our space was really far, like right across the pathway far. It’s my job to guide Mark in the spot, but our escort took care of that before zooming off with a smile and a wave.
The sites are big, like really big. Really long and very wide. There is no stumbling over your neighbors sewer hookup here. The hookup post is farther back in the space than we’d like. I thought we might have to unhook our RZR trailer but we fit just fine, with plenty of room to spare in the front. Each space is concrete with a nice long piece of grass in between. You don’t have to worry about sprinklers getting your chairs soaked each morning either, they are watered by an underground leech line. At least that’s what we think it is. However they water the grass, it’s genius.
The end spaces are even larger with an over-sized side yard, many of them with a nice shade tree.
For campground exercisers like me, it’s .60 miles to walk the perimeter and 3.70 if you add going up and down each row. The pool was inviting, but closed because of the pandemic as was the rec hall. Next to the pool complex is a nice little playground. The dog park is huge compared to other places we’ve stayed.
Caldwell is a cute little town began life as a trading post along the Boise River. The College of Idaho was founded here in 1891 and sits on the edge of downtown. We walked around downtown one night during our stay but only a handful of businesses were open. I’m told there are lots of festivals all summer long in downtown which would have been nice to see. As the county seat, Caldwell hosts the Canyon County Fair every July.
The wine country is less than 30 minutes away. A few of us cousins came anyway and his aunt was able to secure group tastings separate from everyone else at two wineries. The wine was surprisingly good. Shame on me, I really need to get rid of my California wine snobbery. I’m finding more and more delicious wines that are not from California. We enjoyed good family fun, albeit on a smaller scale.
We left really early Sunday morning to head to McCall for a few days and guess what? I completely forgot to take pictures for this post! What kind of blogger am I to be so enthralled in the fun of a weekend and forget to snap pictures?! All was lost until Tim Walbridge posted on a Facebook group we both belong to how much they were enjoying Ambassador. He gets all the credit for the campground pictures. Thanks again Tim!
There will be another family reunion in Idaho and you can bet we’ll be back at Ambassador. If you see me walking in the morning, give me a wave!
