Like many of you, we love a good campfire.
But, living in the desert southwest can make that a challenge. Sometimes it’s our tinder dry conditions and sometimes real fires are a no-no at the campground. What to do, what to do.
We’ve had the Camp Chef brand campfire in a can for a few years and have been happy with it, or so I thought. Little did I know that Mark cringed every time I asked for a fire while camping. While he liked the fire just as much as me, he didn’t like the awkward set up and take down. He said that flipping out the three little legs was a messy pain and getting it back in the back was often frustrating.
This spring he was ready for a change. Out with the old, in with the new.
Introducing our new campfire in a can, the Outland Firebowl. He picked the 870 Premium Portable Fire Pit with auto ignition.
I have to say, setting it up is a breeze. I take it out of the storage compartment, walk it over to the campfire spot and set it down. Done.
We can adjust the flame and relax at the fire for as long as the tank will last.
When it’s time for a fire we take off the lid, hook it up to the propane tank and turn the knob. It’s as simple as turning the propane on at the tank, pushingh the knob on the fire pit in and twisting it until it clicks. Release and viola, instant campfire. There is no messing around with the “flame thrower” igniter thing we all keep in a drawer. No waving around an open flame to get the thing going. You have a cozy fire of any size in seconds.
It’s just as easy when you’re done. We turn off the propane at the propane tank so there is no residual gas in the line. When the flame disappears we turn the knob on the fire pit to off and we are done.
No more hauling fire wood or smelling like smoke when we go to bed. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a real campfire but it’s hard to argue with the easy fire of this.
Just wondering how you carry and store the propane tank. My understanding is placing a tank in a confined space is dangerous and an explosion hazard. Thanks
We have traveled with it for many years without any issues.
