Most RVers know about the quirky little town in western Arizona called Quartzsite.
Snowbirds from all over flock to Quartzsite to spend winters in the mild climate. There is a giant RV show and gem show every January. It’s a potty stop and gas fill up for thousands all year long. When we drive through, we marvel at the endless sea of boondockers on both sides of the freeway.
It’s also a fun place to camp and ride during the shoulder seasons, in the fall and spring when it’s not “living on the face of the sun” hot. There is much to explore in the desert including the Arizona Peace Trail, old mines to find, desert washes to run through, cruising alongside the Colorado River and so much more.
Our base camp when we play around QZ is always Park Place RV Park on Riggles Road at the east end of town. It’s a smaller park, totaling 88 spaces. The super friendly staff keep us coming back. We’ve camped here several times and are always greeted with a hearty “welcome back!” It’s far enough away from the freeway that even on a cloudy day, you barely hear it.
The sites are all back-in wide and level on gravel. When we bring the RZR, we disconnect the trailer and put it next to our coach. When we bring the Jeep, there is enough room at the front of the space to park in front of the coach.
The campground was recently sold to a young couple who are making some nice upgrades. The clubhouse got a makeover and there is a big new group firepit that I bet will get a lot of use this winter. The upcoming snowbird season will be here before we know it and they’ve already started scheduling activities based on people’s comfort level with this darn pandemic.
You know I like to walk the campground in the morning and this one totals .30 around the perimeter. That’s a lot of loops to make three miles but, each loop you’ll get a wave from a fellow camper.
The dog run is big enough for a few dogs and it’s conveniently located next to a covered storage area. Our old motorcycle trailer was longer and took up too much room in our space so it lived in the storage area while we camped.
It’s not fancy camping, but who needs that every single trip. As a Passport America park, members will enjoy extra savings. It’s the perfect spot for us when we play in the desert. The sunsets are beautiful and the company can’t be beat.
