There are many wineries to explore and wines to taste in the Central California wine region. Wine Country RV Resort makes a great home base. It’s conveniently located just northeast of downtown Paso along CA46 granting easy travel to all of the nearby vineyards, breweries and distilleries.
It’s a pretty resort, the grounds are well kept with lots of lush grass and pretty California Oak trees dotting the park. Harvey’s Corner is normally a popular spot in the afternoon for happy hour. Our trip had an unwelcome guest, a pandemic, so it was closed during our visit. Same for the wine garden and clubhouse. We’ve stayed at Wine Country before and enjoyed both Harvey’s and the wine garden. It’s a nice way to meet fellow campers and share your days’ activities. The clubhouse is great for a camping group. During our last visit, there was a large group decorating tables, setting up food and getting ready for what looked to be a fun party. We joked to each other on our walk by about our missing invitation. I confess, I will be so happy when this is all behind us. When we can meet a stranger that turns into a friend, when we can see a person smile instead of just reading their eyes and when we can hug again. Kudos to the staff for making our trip fun and safe; they’ve worked very hard during all of this.
Check-in is a breeze. The campground layout makes for easy maneuvering, no matter what your RV is. Last time we stayed in upper area on the hill in a pull-in spot and had a great view. This time those spots weren’t available so we stayed on the main level in a back-in spot. The concrete pads are long, leaving plenty of room to park our Jeep in front of our coach. The sprinklers run almost nightly so it’s best not have anything on the grass overnight.
The pool and spa areas are also nicely maintained. The main pool is adjacent to the check-in area and also includes showers and a laundry room. There is a dedicated adult spa partway up the hill toward the clubhouse.
Walking the campground is just about a mile and doing two laps was a great way for me to start each day.
There are so many wineries to choose from for a tasting. Two of our favorites are Opolo and Sculpterra. The grounds of both are beautiful, each in their own way. Opolo is situated on a hill with a spectacular view from their event center at the top. It would be a perfect spot for a sunset wedding. Sculpterra’s grounds have different sculptures around the property that have been done by world renowned sculpture John Jagger. It’s our favorite place to bring lunch and sample wine in the garden before taking a walk through the vineyard along their designated path.
Whatever wineries you visit, I know you’ll enjoy your time at Wine Country RV.
