We had an action-packed week along the Arizona-Utah border. We toured the Lower Antelope Slot Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and kayaked down the Colorado River near Page, AZ. We moved to Kanab to explore in our RZR and ended the week staying at Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane where we spent a night in a covered wagon at the Grand Canyon North Rim and found a fun trail and the beautiful Toquerville Falls.
Our home base for Kanab portion of our trip was J&J RV Park in town. It’s a small park at only 42 spaces but they are long and wide, making it perfect for our RV plus trailer. We were set up in space 28 at the end which gave us even more room to park the RZR, have a fire and play cornhole.
The park is on US 89 just east of the main intersection in town tucked behind Allen’s Outfitters making it very quiet. I’m glad we zoomed in on Google Maps beforehand so we knew what to look for.
This is a no-frills park. You’ll find a dog park and a newly remodeled laundry and shower facility. There is no pool, which didn’t matter to us. We spent our days exploring and our evenings by the fire.
We talked to fellow campers and most were visiting National Parks while staying at the park. Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon North Rim and Glen Canyon & Lake Powell are all under 80 miles away. This is a great way to visit some of the prettiest parks in the country, especially if you don’t want to move from park to park. One couple was really interested in our RZR and where we’d been that day. The next night they saw us by the fire and told us they’d found a guided RZR ride that was a lot of fun.
Its location made it perfect to walk to dinner. We walked to Big Al’s Burgers on our last night and wow, was it good. It has the feel of an old-time diner with a huge patio outside. The fries were good enough for another basket, this coming from an onion ring girl!
There is a fancy new park at the eastern edge of town, we may stay there another time. For this trip, J&J suited our needs just right.
