We are always on the hunt for easy in/out parks for an overnight stop. We are still working and will often have a long drive. Sometimes a casino parking lot will work. We don’t normally stay at a Walmart or Cracker Barrell as we don’t want to chance city overnight ordinances and/or find there are no suitable spots when we finally roll in. Many times, an affordable RV park wins.
Enter Orange Grove RV Park.
This has become our must-stop place for our central and northern California trips. It’s close to Highway 58 but not so close to be kept awake.
The sites are level, long and wide with plenty of room to open all slides and not have to disconnect if you’re towing.
The park is carved out of an orange grove. We’ve not been there at bloom time which is a bummer. One of the perks of staying here is you are allowed to pick the oranges. This was the first time some oranges were still on the trees. I imagine the park smells heavenly in early spring.
Each row has it’s own orange inspired name. This visit we were on Sunkist Lane South.
We always arrive long after the office closes and usually depart before it opens. Every interaction on the phone has been pleasant and getting a spot for the night has never been a problem.
The clubhouse and pool are centrally located near the office. There are two laundry/shower buildings; one on each side of the park along with three dog parks. Walking the perimeter is a great way to get your steps in with the bonus of walking along the edge of the grove.
There were still many snowbird license plates as we walked around during our last stay. Bakersfield is generally thought of as a farming town but there is much to do. Fishing and playing on the Kern River, lots of festivals, nearby golf and more can fill your days on a longer stay.
When we’re retired and enjoying a more leisure pace, we’ll spend more than a night here.
