We’ve raided my in-law’s storage bay for another must-have gadget.
We dry camp often. In the winter you’ll find us in the lower southwestern desert with our dirt bikes and RZRs. In the summer we escape the desert heat to our local mountains for hiking and trail riding. Dry camping means conserving the batteries so a fire is many times the only light.
We spend our Thanksgiving in the desert by the Salton Sea in southern California. There are anywhere between 4 and 12 campers set up in a circle. Everyone brings their tables over to make one long dining table, complete with decorations. We need light, the lights on the awning just aren’t enough to see your food if we eat late or your pie after dinner.
Enter the Devos Light Ranger, a compact yet powerful light. They bought one after attending an American Coach rally where several members had one.
It’s perfect for dry camping because it conserves your RV batteries. It collapses down to a small bag making it great for even the smallest RV storage spaces.
It charges using USB-C and holds the charge for several hours. You can charge it when you run your generator in the morning while you make breakfast and get your day started. My in-laws also bought the solar charging pack.
The light shines in a 360° radius. You can adjust the height from 3 to 9 feet to get light just where you want it.
It’s a good idea to have some weight on the tripod base, especially in the desert because the wind can come up without notice. We have a saddle bag that we fill with rocks and is available on Amazon. Devos sells a yard stake if that suits your camping needs better.
Back to our Thanksgiving table. We ate at 4:30 last year, just as the sun started to set. It was dark by the time we brought out all the desserts and one light shined bright enough for everyone to cut their favorite piece of pie.
