We’ve talked before about Arizona’s award-winning state parks and this one is no exception.
The setting couldn’t be better. The campground sits on the lake immediately north of Windsor Boat Ramp 3. Almost all sites have sweeping lake views and several back to the beach. Arizona sunsets are spectacular but they are elevated when watching them over the lake.
The park entrance is easy to navigate, even in the longest RV setup. Campsites are water and 50-amp electric. There is a convenient dump station on site.
There are two loops, Cabin Loop and Windsor Beach. Like most of Arizona’s state parks, there is lots of space between campsites. Each site has a picnic table, a ramada and a fire ring.
Cabin Loop has several single wide camping trailers with some RV spaces. This is ideal if you have family/friends that don’t have an RV and you want to camp together.
There is a large bathroom/shower area in each loop that was clean every time I looked.
You’ll have direct access to the lake and beach. This is great if you don’t have a boat with you. There are mesquite trees providing shade and picnic tables. It’s a great spot to play and watch the boats go by. Scouting beaches at the lake can be a race on busy weekends in the summer. If you do come with your boat, you can’t beach it but you can anchor it for the day. The open part of the lake can get very windy so we don’t anchor ours here.
The Channel is a short walk or bike ride away. It’s great for people watching when boats line both sides. It’s also an area of shops and restaurants. We like to grab a patio table at The Chair. South of London Bridge, the concrete path continues through the south end of the channel to large park that includes a dog park.
We like to take the bikes across London Bridge and ride around the island on the nice multiuse path. Our reward is sometimes a beverage at The Nautical or back at The Chair.
We’ve never actually camped in an actual campsite. We have dry camped many times in the giant dirt lot across the camp road for the annual Havasu Balloon Fest held every January. Every year we tell each other that we need to come back and stay in a real campsite in the park. Our plan this year is to camp at more of our local state and county parks.
Give us a wave when you see us there!
