We bought our Phaeton on consignment and it was clean enough. But not really clean and the shower definitely was not really clean.
I had half a day to do a deep clean before our first trip. I pulled out my trusty vacuum and steam mop along with all the cleaning supplies and went to work. I was a woman on a mission. We were surprising our family at our annual Thanksgiving in the dirt camping trip and I could not properly surprise them in a clean enough coach. It had to be a spotless, oh my gosh clean coach.
The previous owners had a black dog. How do I know? I vacuumed up a lot of black hair. It wasn’t wafting along the tile floor, it was under both couches and the slides. I went through the entire coach using the vacuum attachments to get in all the nooks and crannies. We opened both couches to get a better angle on sucking up even more hair. The tile and carpet looked better. I think that’s what the detail crew from the dealership concentrated on. They missed inside the refrigerator, under the slides and the shower. Not quite sure how they missed the shower unless they never opened the doors.
Never fear, I have the super duper mother of all shower cleaners! Credit Pinterest for this amazing cleaner. http://www.food.com/recipe/tub-and-shower-magic-434275
The recipe is equal parts vinegar and Dawn. For tough soap scum in the bathtub or shower, heat the vinegar first. Not too hot, warm is fine. Pour both in a spray bottle and shake a little. Spray it on liberally, scrub, rinse and viola. Your tub and/or shower will look like new. I let it soak on the shower for a while. I sprayed it down first then got to work on the rest of the coach. By the time I was done with everything and ready to mop, the cleaner had done its stuff and I was able to get the shower shiny clean with not as much scrubbing as I anticipated. I’ve found that once the soap scum is tamed I don’t need to heat the vinegar first. This stuff is magic.
I wish I’d taken a before and after picture. Trust me, it was super duper amazingly clean when I was done.
We even found a contraption that makes the steering wheel a table. The box included a tablecloth. The product description said, “covers the unsightly steering wheel.” Huh? In the three years we’ve had this RV, I can count on one hand the number of tables covering the steering wheel with stuff on it. Tossed it.
